Paper Roses

 

Vicki has made this beautiful gift box.  She made the roses on the lid using a Carl CP2 heart punch.  

This is how she made the roses.  

1) Using a CP2 Heart Punch, punch 14 hearts.
2) Leave one heart separate and then glue 2 together.  Then glue togther a group of 3, then 4 and then 5.  As pictured below.

3) Starting with the single heart, shape it around a paper quilling tool or skewer.  Next shape the two around the singe heart and keep working out with the other pieces, gluing as you go.  With the larger pieces you may need to cut a v-shpe in the bottom of the petals to ensure that it fits together neatly.  Let dry.

4) Once dry use a paper quilling tool to shape the ends of the petals.  
(For variation you can use either a coloured texta, a Copic marker, or chalks on the tips of the petals.  After the rose is complete you can also use glitter glue or diamond dust on the edges)

 

Using Transperancies

Jenn has used a Making Memories Transparency to make this beautiful layout of her daughter Rose.  Jenn has cut the transparency so that you can see the pattern highlight on both the black and white backgrounds.  The title is a painted Chipboard.  The bottom of the white cardstock has been punched with a border punch to give a decorative edge.  

Transparencies are easy to use and so effective in a quick and stunning layout.

Looking after your tools.....

Scrapbookers, card makers and crafters love themselves some tools.  Whether it's the basic tools like paper trimmers and scissors, or tools like your punches they require looking after and some basic maintenance from time to time to keep them in tip top working order.  EK Success make terrific product called Punch Revitalizer to help keep your punches sharp and clean.

The pack includes 10 sheets of 3"x3" waxed paper, 10 sheets of 2"x3" aluminim foil and 15ml silicone lubricant. You punch the foil to sharpen, punch the waxed paper to clean and apply lubricant for smooth punch action.  Everything you need to keep your punches maintained.

The Cricut Expressions

is not only fabulous for scrapbook layouts, card making and Beyond the Page items, it is also awesome for School Projects. 
 
The title and the grass were cut out using the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge.  This is one of the cartridges that comes with the machine.
 
On this project the "Koala" title and the koala bear were cut out using the Zooballoo Cartridge.  The minor title "Habitat Threats" was cut out using the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge.

The Cricuit Expressions is so flexible.  Being able to cut out alphabets and images from 1/2" to 12" means it's so easy to make any kind of project.

What to do......

Do you ever see or buy a product because its pretty, different or just attracts your eye and then aren't sure what to do with it?  Fancy Pants Glitter Cuts are just gorgeous.  Clear acetate colored and glittered in all different shapes and sizes.  We often hear how beautiful they are, followed by a self thinking question of "What would I do with it????"

Ros has made the following layout with a large frame.  She cut it into pieces to frame her photo.  These Glitter Die Cuts can make a simple page really special.

A tip from Kerry

Chandon Craft is very fortunate to have such great teachers for both scrapbooking and card making classes.  The ladies are experienced and published artists with a love for their craft and a thirst for products.  As a scrapper or card maker it's incredibly exciting when you discover a new product that works well.  Kerry Durston, our card making teacher has written about her find:-

CLEARLY CLEAN

Following on from the first card class at Crop for a Cure, we held the first card class last night in the classroom   With many of the participants new to stamping I enjoyed sharing my skills and knowledge. It was great to see the smiles on faces as the 3D medallion element was attached to the card front and students could see their finished card.

The Christmas Seal stamp set of 6 images gave us a wide choice of designs to share. We also used the Autumn Leaves Stitched Journaling set and a splatter design.   These are all clear stamps on crystal blocks and we had lots of them in use.

Every good stamping session has to finish with a cleanup.  Much of the ink was removed with a damp cloth.  I am familiar with the cleaners made for rubber stamps and last night I was introduced to the one just for clear stamps.  What a difference! Although the stamps were still slightly discoloured with a lovely shade of pink they finished up much cleaner. The one to use for this task is Hero Arts Clear Design™ Ultra Clean ™ in a spray bottle.  I now have an order in for a bottle for my tool set.
